Separate colour from coating
Body-tinted glass has colour introduced during manufacture. A coloured film, painted surface or reflective coating is a different approach. Name the intended material clearly so that quotations do not compare unlike products.
Approve the shade at the actual thickness
Grey, bronze, blue and green are colour families rather than exact specifications. Thickness, lighting, background and adjacent materials affect the result. Review a sample against the intended design and record the agreed reference, especially when replacing existing panes.
Ask for the right performance information
A darker pane is not automatically better insulating glass. Visible transmission, solar gain and thermal insulation are different measures. The design team should define the required assembly and evaluate thermal-stress conditions, including shading and the supporting frame.
Plan privacy separately
Do not assume that a dark or reflective façade keeps an illuminated room private at night. Discuss the actual viewing and lighting conditions. Where continuous privacy is essential, include a separate design strategy such as obscured glazing or an appropriate internal screen.
General guidance, not a project design or a declaration of certified performance. Confirm the exact glass construction and documentation with the project team.
