Choose the Right Construction for Your Project
Heat-strengthened glass uses controlled heating and cooling, with a different stress level and breakage behaviour from fully tempered glass. It is often discussed as part of a specified composite construction. A monolithic heat-strengthened pane should not be assumed to meet safety-glazing requirements.
What to confirm before ordering
- Keep the distinction between heat strengthening and full tempering explicit on drawings.
- Confirm whether the design requires a laminated assembly for fragment retention.
- Specify visual tolerances and the finished support conditions alongside dimensions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is heat-strengthened glass the same as tempered glass?
No. The treatments produce different stresses and breakage behaviour. Do not substitute one for the other without design approval.
Can holes be added after heat strengthening?
Final cutting and machining must be completed before heat treatment.
Can it be specified as safety glazing on its own?
Do not assume this. Ask the project designer to confirm the required tested construction and relevant local requirements.
